The Universal Newborn Hearing Screening Program would like to invite you to attend An Afternoon with Caitlin Parton. Caitlin will join us via Zoom on February 4th at 4PM to discuss the Americans with Disabilities Act as well as the rights covered by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, setting goals and protecting the rights of our children using tools such as a 504 plan and Individualized Education Program.

Caitlin is a staff attorney at Mental Health Legal Advisors Committee, a Massachusetts state agency that works to secure and protect the legal rights of people with mental health diagnoses, as well as those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Caitlin’s litigation and policy experience on behalf of people with disabilities includes public accommodations, effective communication, housing, special education, employment, and access to health care. Caitlin has been an advocate for the deaf and hard of hearing from a young age, testifying before the U.S. Senate, Congress, and FDA. She has spoken across the country and internationally on access issues for people with disabilities and is a co-organizer of Deaf Law Day, an annual conference bringing together civil rights litigators with deaf and hard of hearing clients. Caitlin received her law degree from the City University of New York School of Law and her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Chicago. She was Co-Managing Editor of CUNY Law Review. While she uses spoken language, Caitlin can also use ASL to communicate based on client preference. She is a member of the Disability Rights Bar Association, Member at Large for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Bar Association, and is a member of the Statewide Advisory Council of the Massachusetts Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing.

ASL interpreters have been requested. If other accommodations are needed, please email sarah.stone@mass.gov.

This event is free, but registration is required to receive the link. RSVP to sarah.stone@mass.gov. Hope you can join us!
