Parent-Infant Group at Thayer Lindsley Program
The Thayer Lindsley Family-Centered Program
Parent-Infant Group: Wednesday (10:30am-11:30am) – January 25, 2023 – April 26, 2023
The Thayer Lindsley Program, as part of the Robbins Center at Emerson College, offers a family-centered approach to services for young children who are deaf or hard of hearing and their families.
Communication-focused services are provided at this crucial stage in speech and language development. This involves working directly with the children as well as partnering with their families as they engage in the unique challenges of raising a child who is deaf or hard of hearing.
Graduate student clinicians, with the support of a speech-language pathologist and early childhood educator, provide models for parents and assists families in creating optimal language-learning environments at home. Parents are given support and information about their children's specific needs, the goals of intervention, and methods for obtaining additional therapeutic and educational services.
The Parent-Infant Group provides educational and emotional support for families who have recently learned that their infant has a hearing loss. Parents are taught developmentally appropriate ways to encourage their child’s speech and language growth. This group is for infants aged birth to 18 month and their parents/caregivers.
