Annual Awareness Week

April 8-12, 2024

The Decibels Foundation has been hosting a week long awareness campaign since 2011. Donations have raised over $130,000 to support programs for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children & their families!

  • During the week of the campaign, post pictures and/or videos to social media using #makewaveswithdecibels
  • Don't forget to tag The Decibels Foundation in your posts
  • With each post you make, nominate three people to make a new post
  • Each day, Decibels will add new information to contribute to raising awareness regarding Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children. Be sure to check our social media pages daily throughout the week.

A few fun ideas:

  • Post a photo or video of yourself waving your hands, waving a flag, jumping in the waves, doing the wave at the Sox game from last season!

Enriching Tales, Empowering Minds

We are absolutely delighted to showcase the rapidly growing number of children's books featuring characters who are not just deaf or hard of hearing but also better reflect the diversity of diagnoses, communication, and technology within the D/HH community. The heartening surge in publication of these inclusive stories allow young readers and their families to embark on literary adventures that mirror the beautifully diverse world around them while teaching understanding, empathy, and appreciation of differences.

For Makes Waves With Decibels 2024, The Decibels Foundation is donating a dozen of these children's books to three local libraries - Concord, Acton, and Littleton - as a pilot program to introduce more of these stories to all families in the area. These books, along with information about Decibels, will be part of a special display in the children's rooms at these libraries during Make Waves With Decibels week. Watch our social media for more, and stop by the libraries to see the new books and show appreciation for their partnership with our program!
